BOOK ON BIKERS GETS INSIDE THE CLUBHOUSE

For as long as biker gangs have roared across the continent, there have been myths and notoriety -- and idolization by legions of admirers…

Montreal journalists William Marsden and Julian Sher … have returned with Angels of Death: Inside the Bikers' Global Crime Empire. It's their second book on bikers; their first, The Road to Hell, chronicled the relentless grip the Angels hold on organized crime in Canada.

What's perhaps most unsettling in Angels of Death is the overwhelming evidence that Canada remains a hot-bed of activity for the Angels -- particularly in Quebec and British Columbia, where under-inspected ports enable massive overseas shipments of drugs and contraband.

Marsden and Sher cite disorganization and a failure to take the Angels seriously as two major reasons for the club's growth in the Great White North, but also divulge how inter-agency rivalry between police experts virtually ensured the Angels would be several steps ahead of the law at any given time.

Angels of Death is a fascinating ride into one of the world's most exclusive -- and deadly -- clubs.
